Below are two programs that the Small Business Administration has in place to assist employers with less than 500 employees. If you are unsure if you qualify based on size, the SBA has an online Size Standard Tool.
Paycheck Protection Program – This loan program provides a direct incentive to keep workers on payroll. The SBA will forgive these loans if all employees are kept on the payroll for 8 weeks and the money is used for payroll, rent, mortgage interest, or utilities. Consult with your local lender to see if they are participating in this program. This fund is expected to have extremely high subscription rates. Applications are able to be taken as early as April 3 (this Friday). To speed up your application, you can begin compiling the information you may need by downloading this sample form..
Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program – Since most business income insurance providers are denying coverage for the pandemic (way to go guys), you may use the SBA’s Disaster Loan program to help cover costs associated with economic injury related to COVID-19. These low interest loans are intended to cover costs for businesses after a declared disaster.
